Elise Mitchell Winner

“Have a destination in mind: know where you’re headed and how to get there.” That is one of the mantras Elise Mitchell lives by. Based on the success of her firm, it appears she has taken her own words to heart. Mitchell Communications Group has grown from sole proprietorship in 1995 to a top- 50 national strategic communications firm that boasts clients such as Walmart, Procter & Gamble, and Hilton Hotels & Resorts. In 2011, PRWeek named her firm Small PR Agency of the Year. This past year, however, was particularly rewarding for Mitchell. It culminated with the news in early January 2013 that the Dentsu Network acquired her firm as the Japanese company took its first step in building out a PR network of its own. Mitchell will now juggle the dual roles of CEO of her eponymous firm and CEO of Dentsu’s global PR network that she is helping build. However, her success was evident well before the acquisition. Mitchell spent the past four years embracing new technology and innovation. This has led to a 445% gross revenue increase over that period. In 2012, it hit $13 million. Word of her agency’s prowess reached Congress last fall, as the US House of Representatives Committee on Small Business asked her to share her recipe for success in spite of the economic recession. Mitchell is also known from her contributions to charities. She created Ignite, a program that offers her employees the chance to give on the agency’s time and dime. “Elise’s story is inspirational,” said one judge. “She is a beacon for women executives in PR.”
